Scope Co-Founders Neville Micallef and Brian Ferris reflect on how a decade-long partnership has strengthened its reputation as a trusted AI and digital transformation partner, helping businesses across Malta and beyond embrace the future of finance technology.

Last June, Scope Solutions‘ leadership team, comprising Co-Founders Neville Micallef and Brian Ferris together with Barry Iacovou, Country Director of Scope Cyprus, travelled to Tarragona, Spain, for Zoho Inspire Europe, the cloud software company’s flagship annual partner conference. Bringing together senior Zoho executives, product experts, and around 200 of the company’s top regional partners, the event offered an inside look at the innovations shaping the future of business software, with artificial intelligence firmly at the centre of the conversation.

One of the conference’s biggest moments came when Zoho presented a handful of partner awards recognising outstanding contributions across its European ecosystem. In a defining moment for the company, Scope was announced as one of the recipients, receiving the Finance Tech Enablers Award in recognition of its expertise in helping accountants and businesses maximise the value of Zoho’s finance solutions through tailored cloud implementations, and specialist integrations.

“It was an incredibly proud moment for everyone at Scope,” says Neville Micallef, Co-Founder and Head of Tech at Scope Solutions. “Zoho is one of the world’s leading cloud software companies, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, so to be recognised among Europe’s top partners is a tremendous honour. It reflects years of investment in helping finance professionals and accounting firms embrace digital transformation, and really demonstrates that a company from a small island like Malta can create meaningful impact on the international stage.”

The recognition is only the latest milestone in Scope’s impressive journey so far, which has seen the company grow from an enterprising Maltese start-up into a leading cloud solutions specialist serving clients in Malta, Cyprus, Dubai, and other European markets. Central to that success has been a unique approach through cultivating partnerships with both established and emerging software providers, including Xero, Syft, and Zuper among others, to help organisations navigate an increasingly complex technology landscape. Rather than championing a one-size-fits-all solution, Scope focuses on helping clients identify and successfully adopt the right technologies for each client’s workflows, ambitions, and budget.

Among those partnerships, Zoho holds a particularly important place. For more than a decade, Scope has evolved alongside the platform, witnessing Zoho’s transformation from a customer relationship management (CRM) solution into a comprehensive ecosystem of more than 50 integrated business applications. That shared trajectory has given Scope an exceptional understanding of Zoho’s capabilities, reinforcing its position as the only official Zoho Partner in Malta.

As one of Zoho’s closest partners in the region, the team gains early access to emerging technologies and product developments, enabling clients to benefit from new innovations as soon as they reach the market. That proximity to the cutting edge is complemented by Scope’s own investments closer to home, including its sister company generate.TAX, which extends the capabilities of Zoho Books through local tax integrations, and collaborations with the Institute of Accountants in Malta, ICPAC in Cyprus, and Accountancy Europe, which have established Scope as a thought-leader within this growing space.

Ferris believes the long-standing partnership reflects a shared respect and trust. “As a technology company, we naturally look to organisations like Zoho because they’re constantly thinking several years ahead,” he says. “They’ve deliberately remained privately owned, allowing them to invest for the long term rather than chase short-term gains. That mindset is particularly important as AI continues to reshape how businesses operate, and it’s exactly the kind of forward thinking we want to bring to our own clients.”

But the partnership is far from one-sided. “Working so closely with finance professionals gives us a genuine understanding of the challenges they face every day,” Ferris continues. “That real-world insight allows us to bridge the gap between global technology like Zoho and local business requirements. It’s why our approach is increasingly trusted by all sorts of organisations, from SMEs and small accounting firms to major institutions, including a prominent Maltese bank and the Government of Malta. Whatever the size of the organisation, our role is to guide clients towards the right technology that can scale up as their business continues to evolve.”

The award was not the only takeaway from Zoho Inspire Europe. Throughout the conference, attendees were given an exclusive look at Zoho’s long-term product roadmap, with artificial intelligence (AI) emerging as the dominant force shaping the future of business software. For Scope, whose own strategy has increasingly focused on helping clients adopt practical AI solutions, the conference reaffirmed the direction the company is already taking.

One comment from the Zoho leadership team particularly resonated with Ferris: “Sometimes in technology nothing happens for decades, and sometimes in a week, decades happen. That perfectly captures where we are today. AI is accelerating innovation at an extraordinary pace, and businesses need trusted partners who can help them distinguish genuine opportunities from the hype. Thanks to our close relationships with global technology leaders like Zoho, we get an early view of what’s coming next, giving us time to evaluate new capabilities before introducing them to our clients.”

Micallef echoes that commitment: “We’re incredibly grateful to the Zoho team for the trust they’ve placed in us and for this special recognition. It inspires us to keep strengthening our partnership, bringing the latest innovations to existing clients while introducing more businesses to the possibilities of Zoho’s ecosystem alongside other best-in-class cloud solutions. We look forward to continue working together as we expand into new markets and help even more organisations embrace smarter, more connected ways of working.”
