Mr Mark Bugeja, MIA, President

Mark Bugeja is the President of the Malta Institute of Accountants, which, along the MIA council, sets the overall direction of the Institute and ensures that it continues to develop in line with its mission and values.

Mark is currently the Managing Partner of Grant Thornton and has been practicing, mainly in the field of auditing, since he completed the B.A. (Hons) Accountancy course at the University of Malta in 1987.

Ms Helen Brand, ACCA, Chief Executive Officer

Helen Brand is chief executive of ACCA, the global body for professional accountants. Since taking up the role in 2008, Helen has led ACCA through a period of global growth which has seen its membership double to more than quarter of a million. ACCA’s diverse and inclusive community has expanded to cover 180 countries, and also includes more than half a million future members.

Mr Michele Hili, Team Lead (Cloud Solutions), Scope

Mick is not your typical ACCA qualified accountant, after spending some years at a big four practice, he decided to combine his passions for finance and technology to find ways to help out other accountants rediscover the fun in accounting.

He is now acting as Team Lead within the Finance Solutions team at Scope Solutions where he helps the team spread the word about cloud accounting tech and how bookkeeping doesn't have to be the necessary evil you need to be compliant, but an essential part in your everyday decision making.

Mr Daniel Galea, CPA and Registered Auditor, Zampa Debattista

Daniel, a CPA and Registered Auditor, has over fifteen years of experience in Audit, Corporate Services, Accounting and Digital Transformation. After thirteen years at a Big Four firm, he joined Zampa Debattista as Accounting Leader and has transitioned to lead their Digital Consulting service, focusing on business innovation and transformation.

Mr Antoine Fenech, Director, Deloitte

Antoine Fenech is an Audit and Assurance Director at Deloitte currently leading the ‘Accounting and Reporting Advisory’ and the ‘Accounting Operations Advisory’ pillars. The main areas of focus are ESG Advisory and Assurance, finance transformation projects, IFRS technical advisory, ESEF Advisory and Internal Control Gap Analysis. He is also an audit partner focusing on Insurance Industry).

Mr Rachel Decelis, Associate Director Advisory - ESG, KPMG

Rachel is a chemist and chartered environmentalist, having 18 years’ experience in sustainability.  She is KPMG in Malta’s ESG lead, and has worked with various public and private sector entities throughout her career, in sectors including financial services, energy, waste management, remote gaming, hospitality, retail, construction, manufacturing and others.

Ms Maria Cauchi Delia, MIA, Chief Executive Officer

Maria leads the institution in the fulfilment of its strategic objectives, in advising national and international institutions in matters concerning the profession and the wider financial industry and represents the MIA in its engagements with key stakeholders at both national and international level.

As a certified public accountant, Ms Cauchi Delia brings extensive expertise gained from her diverse experience in both the public and private sectors, having worked in various institutions in Malta and abroad. She holds a degree from the University of Malta and is a Fellow Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants.

Mr Gordon Micallef, RSM and Chairperson of the MIA Digital Committee

With a background in IT auditing and governance, Gordon brings over 24 years of experience integrating technology with business strategies. As a lecturer at the University of Malta and founding director of ISACA Malta, Gordon’s leadership is rooted in servant leadership and continuous learning.

His pragmatic approach to delivering efficient solutions aligns with RSM’s commitment to excellence. Gordon fosters a culture of growth by uncovering hidden talents and mentoring professionals. Outside of work, he finds inspiration in product design and photography, activities that complement his strategic role at RSM Malta. 

Mr Andrew Schembri, Partner, PWC

Andrew is an experienced digital consultant focused on ICT Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) topics. Throughout his career, both in Malta and internationally, he has demonstrated a deep understanding of the intersection between technology and risk management. Andrew is dedicated to helping organisations deliver value from their digital investments.

Mr Chris Meilak, Partner Valuation, Modeling, Economics & Sustainability, EY

Chris Meilak is a Certified Public Accountant, Economist and Partner at EY Malta, leading the Valuation, Modelling and Economics sub-service line in Malta. Chris joined EY in 2006 and has carried out several assignments in relation to valuations and financial/ business modelling. Chris holds an MA in Economics and the ACCA degree and is a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Economics, University of Malta.

Mr Carl Zammit La Rosa, Manager Sustainability, PWC

Carl Zammit La Rosa is a Manager at PwC focusing on ESG and supporting clients with their sustainability journey through carbon footprint assessments, sustainability strategies, non-financial reporting and assurance on sustainability information, amongst others. Carl is also leading PwC Malta’s net zero commitment to 2030 and assists on other aspects of management consulting relating to EU funding and policy. Carl is a member of the MIA Sustainable Finance Committee.

Mr Mirko Rapa, Partner, PwC and Chairperson of the MIA Ethics Committee

Mirko is a tax partner at PwC Malta and provides tax advice to a wide and varied portfolio of clients. Over the last 22 years has provided tax advice to companies operating in a number of sectors and individuals taking up residence in Malta.
