BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Maltese VAT Act Cap.406 of the Laws of Malta provides for various VAT forms which need to be filled in and filed by various vat registered persons. There are various factors which determine which forms are to be filed and the respective frequency, primarily the VAT Registration type as well as the nature of transactions entered into. During the session we shall be discussing which forms are to be filed by which taxable persons and when. Moreover the various VAT forms and their respective fields/boxes will be discussed in detail to understand which transactions are to be declared in which boxes. During the session participants will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding specific transactions and how these are to be declared in the respective vat forms apart from raising any other VAT related concerns. The main VAT Forms that will be covered are :
  • VAT Return (Art 10)
  • VAT Declaration (Art 11)
  • Form 04 & Form 05 (Art 12)
  • Recapitulative Statement
  • Intrastat Forms
  • VAT Return Adjustment/Correction Form

SPECIFIC TOPICS TO BE COVERED DURING THE SESSION

  • VAT Return (Art 10)
  • VAT Declaration (Art 11)
  • Form 04 & Form 05 (Art 12)
  • Recapitulative Statement
  • Intrastat Forms
  • VAT Return Adjustment/Correction Form

Why is the session of relevance to our members?

The importance of properly filling and filing the respective VAT forms is primarily to fulfil the compliance obligations as provided for in the Maltese VAT Act as failure to do so might lead to penalties/interest for non-compliance. In addition genuine mistakes and errors in the compilation of the VAT forms might lead to un-necessary and avoidable enquiries and potentially incorrect vat balances/assessment by the VAT authorities which sometimes take precious time both for the authorities as well as the taxable person itself to resolve.  Equally important is the fact that the VAT authorities need to be provided by correct and timely information to fulfil their duties. Hence it is of utmost importance that VAT forms are properly filled in a proper and timely manner.  As always, active participation and questions from participants are encouraged and will be tackled and answered during the session itself making the session more useful and relevant for all those participants .

    Target Audience

This course is ideal both to experienced personnel (accountants, tax practitioners, financial controllers/directors/financial professionals, accounting students and financial staff) who have been working in VAT for a number of years (who may need to brush up their technical knowledge or fill in certain gaps and clarify certain issues relating to the compilation of VAT Forms) as well as newcomers in the VAT sphere (who have an opportunity to get a very good theoretical and practical understanding of the main applicable VAT compliance concepts) .
