Ms Maria Cauchi Delia

CEO of the Malta Institute of Accountants

Maria Cauchi Delia is the Chief Executive Officer of the Malta Institute of Accountants, the sole professional accountancy body in Malta. In her role, she leads the institution in the fulfilment of its strategic objectives, in advising national and international institutions in matters concerning the profession and the wider financial industry and represents the MIA in its engagements with key stakeholders at both national and international level.

As a certified public accountant, Ms Cauchi Delia brings extensive expertise gained from her diverse experience in both the public and private sectors, having worked in various institutions in Malta and abroad. She holds a degree from the University of Malta and is a Fellow Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants.


Mr Mark Bugeja

President of the Malta Institute of Accountants

Mark Bugeja is the President of the Malta Institute of Accountants, which, along the MIA council, sets the overall direction of the Institute and ensures that it continues to develop in line with its mission and values.

Mark is currently the Managing Partner of Grant Thornton and has been practicing, mainly in the field of auditing, since he completed the B.A. (Hons) Accountancy course at the University of Malta in 1987.


Mr Mirko Rapa

Partner at PwC

Mirko is a tax partner at PwC Malta and provides tax advice to a wide and varied portfolio of clients. Over the last 22 years has provided tax advice to companies operating in a number of sectors and individuals taking up residence in Malta.


Ms Ruth Farrugia

Director at Mazars

Ruth is a Tax Director at Mazars in Malta where she is involved in providing tax advice as well as compliance services to both local and international clients. She has been awarded the Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) from the University of Malta and the Advanced Diploma in International taxation from the Chartered Institute of Taxation. She is a Certified Public Accountant, a Fellow Member of Malta Institute of Accountants and forms part of its Direct Tax Committee.


Ms Markita Falzon

Direct Taxation Leader at Zampa Debattista

Markita Falzon is a Certified Public Accountant and Tax Leader at Zampa Debattista. She has been specialising in direct taxation since 2015 and has vast experience in corporate and personal tax compliance, shareholder restructuring exercises, tax structuring projects, succession planning and advising international and local clients on Maltese tax related matters. Markita is a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants and in 2017 she also became a member of the Malta Institute of Taxation after successfully obtaining the Professional Certificate in Taxation. Markita is also part of the MIA Direct Taxation Committee.


Mr Aldo Farrugia

Director General (Legal, Policy, Technical & International Relations) at the Malta Tax and Customs Administration

Aldo Farrugia has over 35 years of experience working in tax administration. Having joined the Malta Inland Revenue Department in 1988, he occupied various positions including Director (International Taxation), leader of the Malta Tax Treaty Negotiation Team, Competent Authority in relation to various international tax instruments and since 2013, Director General responsible for legal and international affairs within the tax administration.


Dr Conrad Cassar Torregiani

Country Tax Leader - Deloitte

Conrad is a lawyer with a specialization in taxation having graduated Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta and Master of Laws in international taxation from the University of Leiden. Conrad joined Deloitte in 2001, assumed overall responsibility for the Deloitte Malta tax practice in 2019 and is also the current president of the Malta Institute of Taxation.


Mr Jesmond Saliba

Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations

Jesmond Saliba is the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations, after gaining unanimous backing in Parliament’s Public Appointments Committee in August 2021.

Over the past thirty years through his profession and interests developed a committed passion to social justice and a high level of understanding of the various elements composing Malta’s society. He has been involved in different areas within the voluntary sector for many years.

Apart from the regulatory role, Saliba was also delegated by the government to spearhead a reform of the sector on different levels which now reached the Public Consultation stage.

He has a keen interest in communications, international relations, diplomacy, and foreign affairs, with particular focus on Europe and European Affairs.

Jesmond has a BA in Communications and International Relations from the University of Malta and M. Sc. In Corporate Communications and Public Affairs from the RGU University in Aberdeen.

Jesmond is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and the UK Institute of Leadership and Management


Mr Mark Wirth

Deputy Chairperson of the MIA SMP Group and Partner at Zampa Debattista

Mark Wirth is a Certified Public Accountant and Registered Auditor, specializing mainly in accounting and ESG reporting & advisory services.

Mark graduated from the University of Malta after completing the Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) Degree back in 2010.

He spent seven years working within the tax and audit service lines within one of the Big 4 audit firms in ¬Malta. In 2017, Mark co-founded Mint Finance, an accounting and audit firm which eventually merged with Zampa Debattista on 1st January 2022.

Throughout his career, Mark has advised several clients operating in various industries, both locally and abroad.

Mark also lectured the tax module of ACCA in recent years.


Ms Ingrid Azzopardi

Group Internal Auditor at GO

Ingrid Azzopardi is the Group Internal Auditor at GO plc. She is also responsible for fraud prevention and detection, facilitates risk management and leads GO’s sustainability.She is a Non-Executive Director at HSBC (Malta) where she chairs the Bank’s Audit Committee and is a member of the Bank’s Risk Committee. She is a former Director of HSBC Life Assurance (Malta) Limited where she chaired the Audit and Risk Committee. She is a past member of the Board of the Housing Authority, Teatru Manoel and the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

Ms. Azzopardi, a Chartered Director and a Master in Accountancy, holds a CPA Warrant and the Practising Certificate in Auditing. She is a Fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants, a Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors – Malta Chapter and the UK Institute of Directors. Ms. Azzopardi is a Committee Member of the IIA Malta Chapter. She is a founding member of the then Malta Forum for Internal Auditors where she held the posts of Vice Chair and Chair of the mentioned Forum. Ms. Azzopardi is the Vice Chair of the Board of Administrators of the Malta ESG Alliance (MESGA). At an international level Ms. Azzopardi was actively involved on the Executive Committee of the Forum for the Irregular International Network Access (FIINA) and chaired the Interconnect Committee of the Forum. Ms. Azzopardi has represented the GO Group at several conferences held locally and abroad and presented on internal audit, revenue assurance and telecommunications fraud at International Fora.


Mr Antoine Fenech

Member of the MIA Sustainable Finance Working Group and Audit and Assurance Director at Deloitte

Antoine Fenech is an Audit and Assurance Director at Deloitte currently leading the ‘Accounting and Reporting Advisory’ and the ‘Accounting Operations Advisory’ pillars. The main areas of focus are ESG Advisory and Assurance, finance transformation projects, IFRS technical advisory, ESEF Advisory and Internal Control Gap Analysis. He is also an audit partner focusing on Insurance Industry).


Mr Carlsten Xuereb 

Member of the MIA SMP Group, and Director at Rosemont (Malta) Ltd

Carlsten is a Certified Public Accountant and Director at Rosemont (Malta) Ltd. Over the last 20 years he has assisted local and international clients in their personal and corporate structuring, Taxation and VAT matters; and other related regulatory requirements. He also has extensive experience in Trust and Fiduciary Services having previously worked with one of the Leading Banks in Malta in their Trust Services Department.

He is heavily involved in consultancy from business design stages including business plan editing, setting up structures, designing financial plans to the eventual oversight and management of the product, service of business as whole once it takes shape into a going concern.

Carlsten forms part of the Malta Institute of Accountants, MIA SMP Group.


Prof. Alexiei Dingli

Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Malta

Prof Alexiei Dingli is an AI expert and Professor at the University of Malta. With over 20 years of experience in the field, he has helped numerous companies successfully implement AI solutions. His work has been recognized as world-class by International Experts, and he has received numerous awards from organisations such as the European Space Agency, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the United Nations. In addition to his considerable peer-reviewed publications, he is also a member of the Malta.AI task force, working to position Malta as a global leader in AI.


Mr Brian Ferris

Founder and Managing Partner of Scope Solutions

Brian is a finance professional, tech enthusiast, entrepreneur, investor, eternal optimist and dreamer who envisions a world where trust, understanding, and harmonious collaboration prevail. With a strong background in finance and early industry experience, he transitioned into entrepreneurship, leveraging his financial expertise to pursue tech-focused business ventures. Brian is presently engaged operationally as the Managing DIrector at Scope, a prominent cloud software solutions firm. Brian also serves as an investor and non-executive director in various enterprises, predominantly tech-related.


Mr Beppe Muscat

Chief Executive Officer at NM Group

Beppe is a CPA and Registered Auditor, currently carrying out his doctoral research on the future of work. He serves as the CEO of NM Group and sits on the Board of several companies based in Malta. Beppe has also just been re-elected as a council member of the SME Chamber.


Mr Jean Paul Debono

Chairperson of the MIA SMP Group and Partner at Quazar

Jean Paul Debono, a Certified Public Accountant and Practicing Auditor, founding partner at Quazar, a multi-disciplinary Accountancy, Audit and CSP firm in Malta heading the Accounts & Advisory department. With a background in global client service and a focus on accounting, tax, and advisory, Jean Paul is recognized for his strategic business guidance. He's a distinguished member of ACCA, The Malta Institute of Accountants, and The Malta Institute of Taxation, also contributing significantly to professional communities by serving as Chairman and Non-Executive Directorship roles across various companies.


Mr Paul Giglio

MIA Council Member, Member of the MIA SMP Group and Partner at Mazars

Paul Giglio is a Tax and Assurance partner at Mazars Malta and has been working on a number of local and international assignments for over 25 years. Paul is a council member of the Institutes and a member of various MIA committees. He has been a guest speaker in a number of local and international tax conferences.


Mr Michael Curmi

Audit Partner at VCA Consultants

Michael Curmi is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and of the Malta Institute of Accountants, and holds a BSc in Economics from the USA, where he was recognised for his high achievement in the field.

He is the managing partner of probably the oldest SMP accounting firm on the island -VCA Certified Public Accountants originally set up by his late father Vincent Curmi in 1966. Michael joined the firm some 35 years ago and has experienced at first hand the changes to the profession over the last three decades.

Over the years, he has had the privilege to witness at very close proximity the growth obtained by some of his clients, some of which have today become market leaders in their respective industries. The expertise required to service such clients needed to grow in line with the ever-increasing financial compliance requirements of our clients and today we are privileged to be able to serve three listed public companies.

This complex work could only be performed with a compliment of a seasoned team developed over the years, many of which have been with us for over 15 years, together with the professional relationships we have developed with some of the best local financial experts, outside of our firm.

Michael comes from a family that is now fourth generation of sportspersons, and given this passion, the firm also services the larger sports organisations on the island. He especially enjoys assisting one of his three daughters Francesca Curmi compete in the WTA Tennis Circuit.


Mr Keith Marshall

Chief Philanthropy Officer for the SiGMA Foundation

Keith Marshall is the Chief Philanthropy Officer for the SiGMA Foundation. 51 years old and a pharmacist by profession, he has been involved in charity, mainly directed towards Ethiopia for almost 20 years and has collected a million euro through his brainchild, the Kilimanjaro Challenge which were used to finance schools, kindergartens, clinics, water harvesting projects and grinding mills.

Keith is well versed in the land of Ethiopia, travelling there almost every year since his first experience twenty years ago.

Since the inception of the SiGMA Foundation, the fund-raising machine has evolved to coordinating challenges across the Camino de Santiago in Spain, mount Toubkal in Morocco as well as the lost city trail in northern Colombia.

The SiGMA Foundation are presently involved in projects spanning Ethiopia, the Philippines, Colombia, Morocco, Brazil, Peru and our very own Gozo.
